さようなら

It’s time to say goodbye to my work. I’ve got a new position at another property, one that I’m hoping will help me grow and be given the chance to be promoted. I’m currently stuck, with no room to move to a higher position – they’re pretty much locked in. And the opportunity came about three weeks ago to apply for a sister hotel a bit up the road, in the opposite direction to home. It’ll be about 5km further to drive each way,  and I can get a bus from outside home to outside work for 50c if I wanted. Might be handy for early mornings.

The tasks for the new role is going to be a little bit in the middle of my current and previous property – a mix of customer service and admin work. My understanding is that they have a newish team and need some stability and mentoring, and a few other bits and pieces. I’m hoping that if it needs to be fixed I can fix it, earn praise and be recommended for future promotions. That’d be the ultimate.

I have another week and a bit here before I finish. I’m gonna be a little sad as it’s a great team, but when I’m feeling stuck with no room for growth I get bored easily. I don’t give 100% and can bum around sometimes, doing my own thing. Like writing occasionally on this blog. Shhh, I’m doing it now. I feel I’ve had a great impact on this current place, it has changed a lot for the better since I came. Not giving myself a big head, but a few things I’ve changed have helped make my days easier. I just hope the new place doesn’t turn out to be a nightmare.

Work update aside, we’ve less than 100 days to go until we go to Japan again. We’ve many things planned, many things unplanned, and many things noted as possible plans. We just booked the bus from Osaka to Hakata and it’s relatively cheap, compared to hotels, planes and the Shinkansen, anyway. The hard part will be trying to sleep on a 90-130 degree angle, trying to sleep with the sound of a bus engine next to my ear, and trying to hold on to the next rest stop because there’s no toilet on the bus. I’m told that if we’re desperate for the john we can contact the bus company, who’ll contact the driver, who’ll announce he’ll make an emergency/unscheduled stop at the next rest area, just so we can go wee. So long as I don’t go overboard with drinks beforehand I’ll be right.

I have complimentary passes to the Qantas lounge at Brisbane Airport, too. That’ll save us from spending $30 each on a Subway 6″ and Coke. We can eat and drink as much or as little as we please, and it’s free. I like that! I’m hoping to record a lot of video when we go this time, I want to spend more time creating videos for YouTube and get more comfortable talking to the camera. I don’t feel natural, and I’ve spent a lot of money on my cameras and accessories, I need to put them to work.
